The Avenue Library in Blackley gave a warm welcome to Sir Kevin Sinfield and his team on day five of their ultra-marathon challenge, which is raising awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease community across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
The rugby league legend, alongside his 7 in 7 team, was undertaking the seventh and final annual ultra-marathon challenge. Avenue Library was the penultimate stop on day five of the journey and which finishes on the pitch at Old Trafford on Sunday 4 October.
Library staff, local residents (and schoolchildren?) gathered to cheer on Sir Kevin and his team. As they entered the library foyer, they were welcomed beneath rugby themed bunting specially created by the library's Hello Saturday children's club. Crocheted rugby figures, made by the library's craft and crochet group, decorated the post box at the entrance, while displays featuring books about motor neurone disease and autobiographies by Rob Burrow and Sir Kevin highlighted the cause he continues to champion. The book displays also featured number 1 bestselling picture book Try: There's more than one way to be a hero written jointly by Rob Burrows and Sir Kevin Sinfield.
Councillor Shazia Butt, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Libraries, said:

He has done so much to raise awareness and vital funds for people affected by MND, and I am full of admiration for his incredible efforts. His visit gave us a valuable opportunity to share his message about empathy and community spirit. We congratulate Sir Kevin and his team on everything they have achieved throughout this challenge and over so many years of dedicated fundraising.
