RAS, short for Run And Socialise, is shaking up the traditional run club model with a refreshing new take on community, movement, and connection.
More than just a running group, RAS is a Run Social Club built around the belief that running should be inclusive, welcoming, and most of all, fun.
Created by two friends who discovered the joy of running with others who were new to the scene, RAS was born out of a simple idea: what if a run club didn’t feel like a run club? After noticing how traditional clubs can often feel intimidating or cliquey, especially for beginners, they decided to build something different.
What is RAS?
RAS hosts monthly events that combine a short, accessible group run (no pressure, no PB chasing) followed by a relaxed social gathering, designed to bring people together, regardless of running ability or background. Think a 5K jog followed by coffee, a drink, or even a chat in a local space that celebrates the spirit of community.
Each event is held in collaboration with a local or small business, from independent cafés to creative studios, turning the post-run hangout into a platform for supporting and celebrating the cities we live in.
The first official RAS event took place at Shoegaze Café in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, a new and trending space that merges music, culture, and community. It was the perfect kick-off to what RAS is all about: movement and meaningful connection.
Currently active in Manchester and London, RAS is building a growing community of beginner runners, city dwellers, creatives, and locals who want to move, meet, and feel good without the pressure of traditional fitness culture. With plans to expand to other UK cities in the near future, RAS is shaping up to create a social movement of its own.
Why it matters:
In a time where connection can feel harder than ever, RAS is a reminder that community starts with shared moments, like moving your body, meeting new faces, and supporting local gems together.
