Earlier this year, the Council announced that five local areas had been selected to receive funding through the Pride in Place initiative.
Pride in Place is a Government-backed scheme set to invest up to £20 million into communities across the country over the next decade.
In Manchester the areas that were selected were Benchill South & Wythenshawe Central, Clayton Vale (parts of Clayton, Openshaw, Newton Heath & Miles Platting), Gorton South (parts of Longsight, Gorton & Abbey Hey, Levenshulme), Harpurhey South & Monsall (parts of Harpurhey, Moston, Crumpsall) and Moss Side West.
As part of this process Neighbourhood Boards will be established to guide this process, with an independent community chair sitting at its head, leading this process.
Moss Side West Community Chair
This week (commencing Monday, May 18) the call is going out to recruit someone from Moss Side who can fill the role of community chair.
This voluntary role will be about helping to build a consensus locally on how money is spent and what the money is spent on, bring together a range of different voices and opinions to the table, help lead engagement with the local community and most importantly, lead the Neighbourhood Board to develop 10-year Regeneration Plans and Investment Plans for their specific neighbourhoods.
This role will also be in support of the range of conversations that have been had over recent months, finding out what matters to local people in these areas.
If you think you fit the description below for an ideal candidate please get in touch with the Council and make your application.
Are you someone who:
- Lives, works or has a strong connection to the area
- Is respected locally and trusted to be fair and balanced

Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, said:
“The Pride in Place scheme will provide a huge lift for communities across Manchester. With the addition of Moss Side West we will now see up to £100m spent in communities across Manchester over the next decade.
“The most important part of this scheme is that it will be directed by locals, and the people who call Moss Side their home. In delivering this project the voice of communities will be at the heart of what is done; ensuring that the right people take on the roles as chairperson and board member is key to achieving our aims.
“Moss Side is one of our most vibrant communities and we know just how passionate people who live there are about their home. If you think you are the right person to lead this project I’d urge you to get in touch and apply.”
