Safety Upgrades Complete at Key North Manchester Junction

Published:

Welcome improvements to improve pedestrian and driver safety have been completed at a key north Manchester junction.

For several months there have been ongoing works at the junction of Broadway and Moston Lane East.

At this busy junction and crossing point much-needed pedestrian safety improvements have been put in place, including:

  • Improved, widened footways
  • New pedestrian-controlled traffic signals at each arm of the junction to support safer crossings.
  • Relocation of two bus stops to be further away from the junction
  • New double yellow lines to prevent parking on or near the junction which had previously blocked lines of sight
  • A new uncontrolled crossing point
  • New bollards to prevent pavement parking
  • Resurfacing of the roadway
  • Improved cyclist awareness symbols

Road safety is a key priority for the Council and especially at busy junctions such as this, it is vital that any improvements keep motorists, pedestrians and cyclists safe on their journeys.

This work forms part of a wider programme of resurfacing and improvements on the city’s roads this autumn. In September the Council announced a resurfacing blitz on more than 50 roads, aiming to make pre-emptive repairs ahead of winter and save the taxpayer money in the long run by preventing roads getting into a state of disrepair.

“One of the key things that people tell us is that they want their roads to be in a good state of repair, for fewer potholes and better safety.

“We listen to residents and with projects like this we put in place lasting improvements to improve everyone’s journeys in Manchester. This has taken some time and I’d like to thank local residents for their patience as we’ve worked to make their streets safer.

“Whether you’re walking, cycling, taking the bus or driving a vehicle we want to make sure people can get from A to B as safely as possible.”

Councillor Tracey Rawlins, Executive Member for Clean Air, Environment and Transport
