Greater Manchester, UK – GM4Women2028, a volunteer-led charity committed to ensuring progress toward gender equality across Greater Manchester, is proud to support 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign running annually from 25th November to 10th December.

With safety as one of its core thematic areas, GM4Women2028 stands firmly behind this global movement and its 2025 theme: ‘End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls’.

Championing safety across Greater Manchester

As part of this year’s campaign, GM4Women2028 is running a digital awareness initiative across its social media platforms, spotlighting the many forms of digital abuse, including tech-enabled harassment, coercive control, online stalking, image-based abuse, doxxing and cyberbullying.

Throughout the 16 days, GM4Women2028 will also signpost organisations, tools and support services that can help women and girls experiencing online or offline abuse.

In addition, members of the GM4Women2028 network will be attending local events across all ten Greater Manchester boroughs hosted by partners and collaborators – showing support with the broader movement for safety, justice and gender equality.

Community gathering at the Emmeline Pankhurst statue – volunteers needed

The central focus of GM4Women’s activity is a powerful public gathering at the Emmeline Pankhurst statue in Manchester’s St Peter’s Square on Saturday 6th December from 10.00am to 12.00pm. Volunteers are invited from across the region to join in this symbolic act of remembrance and action.

Participants can:

• Stand together in solidarity with all women and girls affected by gender-based violence.
• Hold and extinguish a candle when a bell rings every ten minutes to represent the tragic reality that somewhere in the world, a woman or girl loses her life to violence.
• Hand out leaflets raising awareness and highlighting local and national support services.
• Engage with passers-by to spread the word and encourage community action.

This peaceful, reflective demonstration aims to honour the lost women and girls, while shining a light on the urgent and ongoing need for change.

Call for volunteers

Individuals, community groups, academics, students, activists, families, colleagues and anyone committed to creating a safer Greater Manchester are welcome to participate. To take part, please contact info@gm4women2028.org to register your interest and receive volunteer information.
