New MBA in Sports and Entertainment launched by Manchester Metropolitan University Business School in collaboration with Institute of Sport

Manchester Metropolitan University Business School has launched a new MBA aimed at professionals working across the sports and entertainment industries.

The MBA in Sports and Entertainment, developed in collaboration with the Institute of Sport, will be based in Manchester and is designed for experienced professionals working in areas including clubs, leagues, venues, media, commercial strategy and creative industries.

The programme will focus on leadership, strategy and the changing commercial role of sport and entertainment, with students working on live industry projects alongside their academic studies.

Dr Paul Widdop, Programme Leader for the MBA, said: β€œSport and entertainment are no longer just industries; they are powerful global platforms shaping culture, identity and economic growth.

β€œThis MBA has been designed to reflect that shift, equipping experienced professionals with the leadership skills needed to navigate an increasingly complex landscape.”

The course will be delivered part-time using a blended format, allowing students to take part both in person and online.

Participants will also hear from guest speakers working within the sector and have opportunities to work directly with organisations on practical projects.

Manchester’s growing role within the UK’s sporting, media and creative industries is expected to form an important part of the programme, with students able to draw on connections through the Institute of Sport.

The MBA will also include opportunities for international study, alongside teaching around sustainability, ethical management and responsible leadership.

Students will receive career and leadership coaching, executive skills development and access to Manchester Metropolitan University’s MBA alumni network.

Dr Widdop added: β€œThroughout the course, students will receive dedicated career and leadership coaching, alongside a structured programme focused on executive skills, networking and career progression.”

The university says the course is intended for professionals looking to move into more senior leadership positions, as well as entrepreneurs and creative leaders working where sport, entertainment, media and commercial development overlap.
